Notice Regarding Prohibition on Smoking and Consuming Tobacco Products in Public Places

The District Administration Office of Kathmandu issued a notice on May 24, 2023 (Jestha 10, 2080 B.S.) (“Notice”) reinforcing various provisions of Tobacco Products (Control and Regulatory) Act 2068 (2011 A.D.) (“TPCRA”).

The Notice urges general public not to smoke or consume tobacco products in public places, including parks, government offices, educational institutions, public transportation, airports, public toilets, cinema halls, stadiums, pilgrimages and religious places, and bus stands. The Notice also urges general public to refrain from selling tobacco products in ways that are proscribed by TPCRA, including but not limited to – selling tobacco products within 100 meters of any health and educational institution, elders’ care home and other public places as prescribed by the Government of Nepal and selling tobacco products to pregnant women and persons under 18 years of age.
